Freelance SEO consultant: audit, strategy and reporting

You want more customers from Google, and you want to know exactly who is going to touch your site. That would be me. I'm David, a freelance SEO consultant, and I handle the whole job myself: the audit, the fixes and the monthly report.

I've worked in SEO and SEM since 2013, mostly with online shops and small teams. If I don't think SEO will pay off for you yet, I'll say so before you spend anything.

What a freelance SEO consultant does

SEO is the work of showing up on Google when someone searches for what you sell, without paying for each click. It takes technical fixes, pages that answer real questions and a few trustworthy links from other sites.

A freelance SEO consultant covers that whole chain without the layers of an agency. In my case that means:

  • Checking your whole site for speed, crawling problems, weak titles and pages Google can't read.
  • Researching the words your buyers actually type, market by market.
  • Telling you which pages to fix first and what to change on each.
  • Cleaning up the technical side: internal links, hreflang (the tag that tells Google which version to show in each country) and errors in Search Console.
  • Fixing things in WordPress or PrestaShop myself, code included, or writing clear instructions for your developer.
  • Setting up a simple dashboard in GA4 and Looker Studio so you can see clicks and enquiries without a degree in analytics.

What you get at the end is a short document and real changes on your site. You will not get a 200-page PDF that nobody opens.

How I work as an SEO consultant: my process in four steps

I start by learning your business, then I touch the site, and then we read the numbers together every month.

  1. 1
Review. I go through your site, Search Console, GA4 and your sales. You give me access and ten minutes to explain what you sell, and I tell you on a call what looks wrong.
  2. 2
Short plan. You get a list of ten to fifteen tasks ordered by impact and effort, each with an owner and a date.
  3. 3
Fixes. I change titles, texts, speed issues and internal links myself, or hand your developer precise tickets. We publish and test.
  4. 4
Monthly reading. We look at clicks, calls and sales. If a change makes things worse, we undo it, and I tell you before anyone else notices.

After every round you receive a short note with what I found and what I changed, plus the next tasks with dates.

Who I work with as a freelance SEO consultant

Small teams and owners who prefer a direct conversation. You talk to me, and I work on your site.

  • Shops on PrestaShop or WordPress whose sales have stalled. We tidy categories, product pages and speed.
  • Local businesses that live on phone calls. We fix service pages and area pages, together with my local SEO approach.
  • Companies selling abroad. We sort out languages and country versions with my international SEO method.
  • Teams that also run Google Ads. I connect SEO with Shopping and search campaigns so both pull in the same direction.

What I need from you to start

I need read-only access to Search Console and GA4, a clear idea of who your best customer is and which page earns money, and someone who can publish changes: you, me or your developer.

If you are a large company with five stakeholders and weekly slide decks, I'm probably not your person. A freelance SEO expert fits better when you want speed and straight talk.

Independent SEO consultant or agency: which fits you

I know both sides, and each has its moment.

PointWith meWith a large agency
Who does the workI do it from start to finishAn account lead plus a team
CommunicationYou write to me directlyYou write to a manager
SpeedFew clients at once, quick decisionsMore hands, more meetings
Technical depthI read code, logs and feedsSplit across several roles
ContractA simple quote, no lock-inYearly deals and extra layers

Choose a freelancer when you want one person who knows your site inside out. Choose an agency when you need many hands at once, like fifty new pages in a week.

What freelance SEO services cost

It depends, and I would rather be honest than quote a number out of context. I price after seeing your site, your market and your goal. What moves the price:

  • The size of the site and its technical state.
  • Whether we need to write new pages or just fix what exists.
  • Whether you sell in one place or several.
  • Whether your team makes the changes or I do.

I don't work from price lists. You send the form, I look at your case and send a closed quote. If a one-off SEO audit is enough, I'll tell you.

When to hire an SEO consultant

Hire an SEO consultant when you have something to win and something to fix. These are the situations I see most:

  • Your shop sells, but Google brings no buyers. We clean up the technical side and rewrite the key category pages.
  • Your PrestaShop feed keeps breaking in Shopping. I check the modules, the payment steps, the shipping rules and, if needed, the MySQL data.
  • You sell in Spain, Italy, France and Portugal and each version drifts. I set up hreflang, local wording and links for each place.
  • Your customers phone you, as with the architecture studios I worked for at ChovA through SEO and SEM. We fix the service pages and track the calls.
  • Your team runs ads but the site leaks visitors. I tie SEO to Google Ads, Shopping, Meta Ads and email, plus CRO and A/B tests, which are small page experiments to get more enquiries.

It's too early if you just launched and have no clear offer. Sell a little first, then come back with proof that people pay.

My experience as an SEO consultant

I'm from Cornellà, I talk like I'm having a coffee, and I don't sell smoke. This is what I've worked on:

  • SEO and SEM since 2013, including multi-market ecommerce.
  • SelfPackaging, Grupo Brownie and Mopec, where I was head of ecommerce.
  • PrestaShop in depth: PHP modules, payment gateways, shipping and a Salesforce to PrestaShop integration. Also WordPress and MySQL.
  • Google Ads and Shopping, Meta Ads and email marketing for repeat sales.
  • CRO and A/B tests, GA4 and Looker Studio dashboards, plus report automation.
  • At Heymondo, SEO and SEM for Spain, Italy, France and Portugal. At IDFinance, international SEO for Mexico, Spain, Brazil, Poland and Georgia, with local keyword research, E-E-A-T content for each market and local link building.
  • At ChovA, finding clients for architecture studios with SEO and SEM.

Since 2026 I also build AI agents and automations for marketing tasks. I've lived in Andorra since 2022 and I invest in startups on the side.

How to tell if a freelance SEO expert is good

There is a lot of noise in this market. If I were hiring, I would ask:

  • What will you touch first on my site, and why?
  • How will you measure results: clicks, calls and sales in Search Console and GA4?
  • Who makes the changes, and how long does each one take?
  • What happens if traffic drops after a change?
  • When would you tell me to stop paying you?

Good signs: they speak plainly, show real screens from Search Console and sales rather than rankings alone, promise no number-one spot or magic dates, and say no when a task won't pay off.

One-off work or monthly help

Both work. A one-off project suits a clear technical mess or a pre-launch check. Monthly help suits a shop that needs fixes, texts and links over time. Tell me your situation and I'll say which one pays.

FAQ about hiring a freelance SEO consultant

What does an SEO consultant do?

An SEO consultant helps your site show up on Google without paying per click. They review technical health, the words buyers use, your pages and your links. I give you a short list of priorities, work through it with you and report on clicks and enquiries every month.

How much does an SEO consultant cost?

It depends on the size of your site, its technical state, how much content is needed and how many markets you cover. Market lists vary a lot, so I quote after a check. Send me your URL and your goal and I'll tell you what fits and what doesn't.

How much do freelancers charge for SEO?

There's no single rate, because projects differ so much. A one-off audit, a monthly retainer and a migration are priced differently. I give a closed quote once I understand your case, so you know the total before we start.

What does an SEO freelancer do?

A freelancer does the audit, the fixes and the reporting without an agency in the middle. I work on technical SEO, content, links and measurement, and I speak directly with you or your team.

Is SEO still worth it in 2026?

For many businesses, yes: people still search before they buy, and AI answers tend to quote pages that already rank and answer clearly. It pays off most when you have something worth finding and can wait a few months. I won't promise dates or positions.

Is SEO dead now with AI?

No. People still search, and AI answers quote pages that rank and answer clearly. What changes is that generic content gets fewer clicks, so your pages need real experience behind them.

Independent SEO consultant or agency: which fits?

Direct contact and one person who knows the site suit a freelancer. Large volumes of work at once suit an agency. If you want someone to handle code, feeds and reports personally, freelance fits.

How long does SEO take to show results?

Months, not days. Technical fixes show up first in crawling and speed. Clicks and enquiries arrive later and depend on your market and starting point. We read your data together and keep what works.

Can I hire an SEO consultant for a one-off project?

Yes. Many people hire me for a one-off audit, an hreflang fix or a Shopping feed cleanup. You get the findings, the fixes and the next steps, and if you later want monthly help we can set that up.
